Let's learn some more....
Why we're obsessed...
What is Polymer Clay?
Polymer clay is a versatile art medium that is used by a variety of hobbyists and professional artists.
Despite it's name, it is a man-made material, not natural clay. It's contains colouring agent and fillers in a polyvinyl base.
Polymer clay is sold in blocks which can be carved, moulded or pressed then cured in an oven to become a permanent piece of art.
Polymer Clay in Jewellery Design
Polymer clay is especially popular in jewellery design because of it's impressive versatility. It's can be used to mimic the look of stone, glass, wood and precious metals. It can also be sculpted to create delicate flowers, charms and beads.
Most importantly, the finished pieces are extremely lightweight, making them comfortable for the wearer.
Which Polymer Clay is best?
There's a huge range of polymer clay brands on the market.
The clay that is most commonly used by professionals , both manufactured by Sculpey, and sold by Kit & Co.
This clay is beautiful to work with, have good tolerance for flexibility after baking, and therefore create durable pieces.
Premo and Sculpey come in a wide range of colours and accents, and can also be mixed together to create new effects.
